Is there really a difference between barotrauma and volutrauma of the lungs?
[edit]As I understand it the damage caused by positive internal pressure difference barotrauma is actually tearing of the lung tissues due to expansion to excessive volume of contained gas causing excessive tensile and /or shear stresses in lung tissue. The pressure itself does not do the damage. Therefore I see pulmonary volutrauma as a form of pulmonary barotrauma. Or is there a way of expanding the volume of lungs while maintaining a lower pressure inside, or no pressure difference? • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:41, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
