DYK for Cedric Wermuth
[edit]Hi Puppies937, I have seen you have expanded the article on Cedric more than 5 x, so I nominated it for a DYK. Feel free to have a look and word an other hook. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 11:19, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
DYK for Cédric Wermuth
[edit]On 23 November 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Cédric Wermuth, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Cédric Wermuth, the co-president of the Swiss Social Democrats, was once fined for squatting? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Cédric Wermuth. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Cédric Wermuth), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Per the discussion at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Albums/Archive_46#Piero_Scaruffi_-_Final_Verdict_on_using_him_as_a_source_in_reviews there's a very clear consensus here that Scaruffi is not to be used as a source in music/album articles in any capacity. So please, do not add his opinions anymore. It is a wp:self published source. Since this is a long running dispute, any contributor warned by the situation and who doesn't respect it, would encounter sanctions and could be blocked from editing. Thanks. You've been informed because you used this source here. Woovee (talk) 03:42, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

[edit] Hello, I'm Dl2000. I noticed that you recently removed content from GX-2 without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Dl2000 (talk) 00:27, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation of your changes. It looked like some referencing was being removed, but on further review, one of those was a consolidation, but the conversion of the Youtube citation to an external link probably should have been replaced with another, probably more reliable, citation. Anyway, I have generally restored your edits, but flagged areas that could use more footnotes/citations. Dl2000 (talk) 01:20, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
March GOCE drive
[edit]Thanks for all your help. When you record your work, please follow the instructions in the "Totals" section of the drive (or blitz) page; there's no need to add the date an article was tagged. We use a script to generate the barnstar table, and a lot of extraneous stuff takes a while to remove prior to running the script . All the best, Miniapolis 18:42, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Deflagration
[edit]Hello Puppies937.
I'm new to editing Wikipedia and I saw you made some sort of changes to the edits I made on the deflagration page. When I do the compare, which is not visual, I don't understand what you did. The page reads the same as before (I think). One area I'm confused about is when referencing web pages I don't understand the nuances of "live" vs. "archived." Did you fix an error I made in that regard. Thanks in advance. DoktorScience (talk) 21:05, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi! I just saw your posting on my Talk page. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate me. It was very helpful. I will try to include archived url references as well as live urls from now on.
- Thanks again. DoktorScience (talk) 01:32, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Hello again. I made more edits on the deflagration page and once again got a CS1 error. This time it was an "archive-url=is malformed:time stamp. Per this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:CS1_errors:_archive-url I noticed the archive reference requires a 14 character time stamp (YYYYMMDDhhmmss). Once I added that into the url per the format on the CS1 page, the error went away. Eureka! — Preceding unsigned comment added by DoktorScience (talk • contribs) 03:11, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Attempted de-orphan articles
[edit]Hi Puppies937, For article Augustin Pesnon, I de-orphaned by adding a Pesnon link at List of French people, Musicians section. In addition to "List of ..." articles, a link can sometimes be added to the "See also" section of a relevant article. The Further template is also useful, to add a link, usually at the bottom of a section mentioning the topic. For a long time, I've been de-orphaning Association football biographies by adding the person to yyyy in association football, Births. But that is a bit more complicated as I use the PetScan tool to extract a list of biographies to work on. Hope these ideas are helpful, otherwise all the details are at Suggestions_for_how_to_de-orphan_an_article. Regards, JoeNMLC (talk) 12:53, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
Unsourced dates in biographies
[edit]Where are you getting these birth dates from in edits like Special:Diff/1242064434 and Special:Diff/1242064889? If you've added dates to other biographies, please go back and add citations to reliable sources or remove them. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 13:24, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi NinjaRobotPirate, any dates like that are pulled from whatever is in the article already. In those cases, the year of birth is in the categories tags, added by another editor. I ALWAYS source information when I add to an article, but when adding infoboxes, I just use the information already present. Puppies937 (talk) 11:09, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- If you add dates to an infobox that you don't source, that's still adding unsourced content to a BLP. Don't do that. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 13:01, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- In this case -- and this is a genuine question -- should I not add infoboxes to pages that are entirely unreferenced? I am just going through the maintenance tag for pages needing infoboxes. I typically then tag a page as unreferenced/blp unreferenced if it is not already tagged but I do add the infobox using the information in the article. Just trying to understand where the line is. Puppies937 (talk) 17:29, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- The problem isn't with infoboxes, it's unsourced content being replicated. If you add an infobox to an article saying that someone was born in 1960 or whatever, and that's not sourced in the article anywhere, you've added unsourced content to Wikipedia. If it's already sourced in the article body, it doesn't have to be sourced in the lead/infobox also, and there's no need to clutter the infobox or whatever with more citations. It never hurts to have a citation, though.
As to whether any article in particular needs an infobox, there was a whole big Arbcom case about that. Some people got banned from adding/removing infoboxes, and the topic was put under "contentious topics", like BLPs. I personally think BLPs should have infoboxes when there's enough important and well-sourced content to warrant one. If there's only enough content to fill in one parameter (or maybe just two), I usually leave it out. That's just me, though. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:06, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Puppies937,
Please use Twinkle to tag pages for deletion. Go into your Twinkle Preferences to check off the box that states "Notify the page creator" so that the article creator is notified when you've tagged one of their articles for deletion. You can also check the boxes for all of the CSD criteria if you ever tag pages for speedy deletion. It's important for content creators to receive these notifications. Twinkle makes this easy and will even maintain a deletion log for you. It remembers all of the templates so that you don't need to. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:03, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
