JC Penney just after the Alaskan earthquake.

[edit]

I remember being there just after the Alaska ice cream and seeing the JC Penney Building ripped in half with several stores on one side being higher than the other half. I haven’t seen any pictures like that. Does anybody have any pictures of the JC Penney Building in that condition? 1ToughOldMan (talk) 03:27, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The U.S. Army and USGS, among many other federal entities, took photos. Not all of them have made their way onto Wikimedia Commons, though I believe there are a few others there besides the one shown above. There was also a multi-part book series consisting of various scientific reports, copiously illustrated. I've seen them on Google Books, but they might not be freely available because they were copyrighted. Hope this helps. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 20:53, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Broken official websites for cities

[edit]

A lot of Alaskan cities have links to official websites in their infoboxes which start with "www.commerce.alaska.gov/dcra/DCRAExternal/community". These most seem to be broken and might need to be updated. Kk.urban (talk) 19:39, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Most probably just need to be removed. It's better to have nothing than have a dead link. Several have moved their official site to a facebook or other platform. --ARoseWolf 19:57, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The DCRA went to a more interactive map that displays where the community is located and what its specifics are so all of these individual community links are obsolete. --ARoseWolf 20:03, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Kk.urban, I believe I have dealt with most of them but will continue checking to make sure they are all resolved. I will go through each again to see if the communities have a more official website to add back. Thanks for bringing it up. --ARoseWolf 20:07, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Kk.urban (talk) 20:08, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has requested that Włodzimierz Krzyżanowski be moved to Wladimir Krzyzanowski, which may be of interest to this WikiProject. You are invited to participate in the move discussion. Hog Farm Talk 00:28, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Egg Islands ( Alaska)

[edit]
Notice

The article Egg Islands (Alaska) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Single sentence definition article, which seems to fail WP:NOTABILITY, as it is uninhabited and has no mention outside of maps.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
