Hwang Ye-ji (Korean황예지; born May 26, 2000), known mononymously as Yeji, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is the leader of the South Korean girl group Itzy, formed by JYP Entertainment in 2019.

Early life

[edit]

Hwang Ye-ji was born on May 26, 2000,[1] in Seoul, South Korea. She grew up in Jeonju.[2][3] While in elementary school, she took an interest in singing. Her older sister inspired her to start dancing and soon after, she decided to join the local dance group.[2] She graduated from Jeonju Commercial Information High School.[4]

Following the cover's success, they released a remix of the track, which peaked at number 120 on the Circle Download Chart.[16][17] In November 2023, Yeji, alongside groupmate Chaeryeong, appeared as a mentor on SBS TV's reality survival series Universe Ticket.[18] On December 20, Yeji released a music video for her solo track titled "Crown On My Head", which landed at number 43 on the Circle Download Chart.[19] On December 1, 2024, Yeji released her first OST, "Think about you", for the TvN's television series, Love Your Enemy.[20] The song debuted at number 67 on the Circle Download Chart.[21]

On January 17, 2025, it was announced that Yeji was preparing for her debut as a solo artist.[22] On February 10, JYP Entertainment released the official trailer for Yeji's debut solo EP Air.[23] The album is set to release on March 10.[24]
