'S e bàrd Albannach a bh' ann an Ùisdean MacDhiarmaid (Langaim, 11 an Lùnastal 1892–Dùn Èideann, 9 an t-Sultain 1978). Bha ùidh mòr aige ann am poileataigs agus bha e a' feuchainn litreachas sgrìobhte sa Beurla Ghallda a bhrosnachadh ann an Alba. Bha Somhairle MacGill-Eain air a bhith fo bhuaidh litreachail MhicDhiarmaid. Thathar ag ràdh gur e pìos bhàrdachd as cudromaiche a thaobh ùr-nòsachas litreachail ann an Alba a th' ann an The Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle (1926) le Ùisdean MacDhiarmaid.

Litreachas
[deasaich | deasaich an tùs]Bha deasbaid mòr ann eadar Ùisdean MacDhiarmid agus Edwin Muir a thaobh an cànan ceart airson litreachas na h-Alba ann an 1936. Bha Edwin Muir dhen bheachd gu bheil Beurla an cànan as fheàrr airson litreachas na h-Alba a dhol air adhart, ach bha Ùisdean MacDhiarmaid ag iarraidh litreachas Albannach sna cànain eile, mar Beurla Ghallda, a bhrosnachadh agus a chumail beò.
Ùisdean MacDhiarmaid agus Somhairle MacGill-Eain
[deasaich | deasaich an tùs]Ann an 1934, nuair a bha Somhairle MacGill-Eain na oileanach aig Moray House ann an Dùn Èideann, thachair e ri Ùisdean MacDhiarmaid. Bha tarraing mhòr eadarra agus lean an dlùth chàirdeas sin gus an do bhàsaich MacDhiarmaid ann an 1978. Nuair a thachair an dithis aca, bha ùidh aig MacDhiarmaid mar thà ann am bàrdachd Ghàidhlig agus dh' eadar-theangaich Somhairle MacGill-Eain cuid de na dàin le Alasdair Mac Mhaighstir Alasdair agus le Donnchadh Bàn Mac an t-Saoir do MhacDhiarmaid. Tha dealbh de Ùisdean agus Shomhairle air Whalsay, Sealtainn, ann an 1935 aig Urras Shomhairle.
Tha ainm, Ùisdean MacDhiarmaid, a' nochdadh ann am bàrdachd Shomhairle MhicGill-Eain gu tric, mar eisimpleir ann an Dàin do Eimhir no An Cuilithionn.
