Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin; bahasa Arab: أمل علم الدين; lahir 3 Februari 1978)[1] adalah seorang barrister Lebanon-Inggris di Doughty Street Chambers, yang mengkhususkan diri dalam bidang hukum internasional dan HAM.[2] Klien-kliennya meliputi Julian Assange, pendiri WikiLeaks, dalam perjuangannya melawan ekstradisi;[3] mantan perdana menteri Ukraina, Yulia Tymoshenko;[4] wartawan Mesir-Kanada Mohamed Fahmy; dan penerima Nobel Nadia Murad. Pada September 2021, Pengadilan Kriminal Internasional (ICC) menunjuk Amal Clooney sebagai Penasihat Khusus untuk konflik Sudan di Darfur.
Amal Clooney telah memegang berbagai jabatan di pemerintahan Inggris dan PBB, dan ia juga seorang profesor tamu di Columbia Law School. Pada 2016, ia dan suaminya, aktor George Clooney, mendirikan Clooney Foundation for Justice.[5]
Kehidupan awal dan keluarga
[sunting | sunting sumber]Amal Alamuddin Clooney lahir di Beirut, Lebanon. Nama depannya berasal dari أمل, ʾyang berarti "harapan" dalam bahasa Arab. Ayah Amal, Ramzi Alamuddin, adalah seorang pensiunan akademisi, dan ibunya, Baria, merupakan jurnalis.[6] Keluarganya meninggalkan Lebanon karena perang saudara saat Amal masih berusia tiga tahun[7]. Mereka kemudian menetap di Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. Amal mempunyai tiga saudara kandung: satu saudara perempuan (Tala Alamuddin) dan dua saudara tiri dari pernikahan pertama ayahnya.[8]
Pendidikan
[sunting | sunting sumber]Amal menyelesaikan pendidikan sarjananya di St Hugh'S College Universitas Oxford dan mendapatkan gelar S2 (LL.M) di Universitas New York.[9]
