Other sources (e.g. the introduction to the Fischer edition of the Foundation to Flute Playing) give ca.1870-1954, just specify "Ernest F. Wagner" and mention that he was a flutist in the Sousa Band. According to Wikitree his dates are 1876 (May 1)-1954 (March 4), he was born in Chicago and died in New York City.
