    JUST LAUNCHED

    The Works

Welcome to The Works, the playlist featuring the latest and best from the world of classical music. Heading this week’s playlist is a haunting track from pianist Beatrice Rana’s forthcoming album of Bach Keyboard Concertos. Beatrice Rana made her concert debut aged nine performing one of Bach’s Keyboard Concertos, so it is no surprise to find her evidently in her element performing four of those works. Here we may hear her performing the “Siciliano” from the E major Concerto, a movement she describes as both “personal” in its expression, “but also like a procession”. The way the pianist’s melodic lines twine with those of the accompanying violins in this lilting piece is a tricky symbiosis between the nominal soloist and the orchestra. As Beatrice explains, this is not a question of the “soloist vs orchestra” archetype often brought to mind when thinking of a concerto, but a matter of intimate communication between pianist and her fellow players. Rana enjoys a strong rapport with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, with whom—prior to making the recording—she toured and performed these concertos to great critical acclaim. Their album of these works is widely and warmly anticipated. The Works is updated regularly by our editors, so if you find a piece of music or performance you love, make sure you add it to your library.
