Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia

[change source]
Hi Jmarcano, welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! Thank you for your changes. If you need help, check out the Help section of Wikipedia, or leave a message on my talk page. Whenever leaving messages on talk pages, please remember to sign your name by typing four 'tildes' (like this: ~~~~); doing this makes your name and the date show up. Also, it helps if you write something in the box that says 'edit summary' whenever you change an article. Below are some useful links to make your time here simpler. Re: Thanks for your welcome

[change source]

Well, I noticed your interest in Dominican Replublic article when I sent that welcoe message to you. I will have a look to the article, and make required fixes. By the way, you should say English is not your mother "language". Language is the way we speek; tongue is the flesh in our hand. :)

Cheers,

- Huji reply 13:03, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I checked Dominican Republic a few hours ago. There are some parts which are written without a reference, while they need one. By reference, I mean a "reliable" and "independent" source. It would become a better article if you can find and add referenes. - Huji reply 17:04, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Citations in the Dominican Republic article

[change source]

About rewriting those parts I marked as {{fact}} (i.e. citation needed), it is definitely a good idea. About mountain range or chain of mountains, I think it would be better to ask this again on Wikipedia:Simple talk, so more people can comment on it. Personally, I think either of them can be used.

By the way, if you don't mind, let's respond to the messages on the same page they are asked; so if you ask a new quesiton on my talk page, I will answer there, not here, okay?

Cheers, - Huji reply 12:30, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Municipalities in Dominican Republic

[change source]

When creating articles about municipalities in Dominican Republic, it is a good idea to add them to the Category:Municipalities in Dominican Republic too. - Huji reply 09:21, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Himno nacional

[change source]

Please accept that I moved "Himno nacional" to "Quisqueyanos valientes". The article is about the anthem with the name "Quisqueyanos valientes". The Spanish words for national anthem cannot be the right lemma for a special Himno nacional (national anthem). --Cethegus (talk) 20:05, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. - Himno Nacional was obviously the title of the poem Emilio Prud'homme wrote. - It's rather uncommon that a poet knows that his poem will be the national anthem and therefore calls it like that. In Germany everybody calls the German national anthem Nationalhymne, but the official title is Lied der Deutschen. But I was wrong to suppose that Himno Nacional was a similar case. --Cethegus (talk) 09:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Samana English

[change source]

Hola, José. If you have any spare time, could you please check Samana English? I copy-edited it last night but wasn't sure about the accuracy of the information. Thank you, Osiris (talk) 01:01, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Italian mountain community articles

[change source]

I noticed the article Italian mountain community that you created, and the articles on individual communities. The language in these articles is complex and needs simplifying. They also appear to be close translations of articles from other Wikipedias. Translating from other Wikipedias without simplifying is frowned upon and can get the articles deleted. If you can get them simplified and give attribution (using template {{Template:Translated page}}) within a couple of days or so, I'd be willing to leave them. Otherwise, I could move them to your userspace for you to work on. Let me know which you'd prefer. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:40, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think that, for several months, I will have time to work in the Wikipedias. I need the time to work on my personal websites. So try to do what you might think is the best. Jmarcano (talk) 23:06, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

French arondissements

[change source]

Hi, Jmarcano. Thanks for your new articles on French arondissements. You might not have known, but there is a template especially for these: Template:Infobox French arrondissement. If you create any more of these articles, maybe you could use that? It's usually better to user the specific infobox template when we can. If you can change the ones you've already created, too, so much the better -- I can help with that if you want. One nice thing about the specific template is that it has better links for canton and commune. What do you think? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:57, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am answering here because that's what you say in your talk page.
Actually, I don't recall to have seen before the Template:Infobox French arrondissement but, anyhow, I thought that there was a general policy of reducing the number of so specific templates, at least in Spanish Wikipedia I could not create a similar template. My first articles on Simple Wikipedia were on the provinces of the Dominican Republic and I created a specific template: Infobox Dominican provinces, but then I eliminated this and I began using Geobox because I was used to work with that template in English Wikipedia. I don't have any problem in changing the Infobox in those articles that I have written but I think that the footnote should be erased unless that there is a reference. I am not going to write any new article for Simple Wikipedia for a time because I am going to spend more time in the Spanish one; Spanish is my native language and I could manage more complex articles.--Jmarcano (talk) 20:59, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, answering here is good. I have also seen efforts to reduce specific templates in various areas. My view of that is that if we want to reduce the number, we would change articles that use the ones we want to get rid of and delete the templates.
Maybe I'll see you at Spanish Wikipedia. I speak Spanish and I occasionally make changes there. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:40, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thank you for your edit in pomegranate. It look like a much better article with more information now you added to it. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:43, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jmarcano, its one thing to revert changes, its another to revert them to my changes made in 2014. As you can see here [1] It was my changes in 2014 on the standard Wikipedia that the Geography of the Dominican Republic uses. Furthermore, it is concerning that you should revert before investigating said sources. [2] (pg 341) and [3] (pg 93) these "do not relate to text"? -- Is this a joke? Assuming in good faith, if you are in error, please lay off reverting me before investigating. Just because I do not use simple.wikipedia that much does not mean I do not have over 35,000 edits globally. Simply these are better sources. Thanks. Reverts

[change source]

Hi

Can I please get an explanation for why you reverted all of those changes I'd made, for example, on Allier (river)? The changes were made to correct an error that the pages were outputting. The error was fixed, however now that my changes have been reverted, the error is back. on all of those pages. If there isn't a major reason for the reverts, I'd like to go back and restore all of my edits. Thanks. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 18:27, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Gordonrox24: I was wondering something about some of these. With most templates I've seen, a pipe isn't needed right before the final right brackets. I wonder if the problem is in the template rather than in how it's coded. Could a better fix for some of these be to change the template instead of the pages that use it? --Auntof6 (talk) 19:41, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Quite possibly. If there is something in the template that we could change, it'd be way better than changing all of the pages. What we'd need to change, however, is the question. If the issue is with the template itself, would the issue not be found on all pages using the template, not just a handfull (then again, maybe it is all the pages, I've not counted...)? The issue is presenting itself on a number of templates, most of them having been around for many years. One would imagine if there was something wrong with the templates, we'd have noticed it by now, but maybe not.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:39, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've only looked at a couple, ones that use the geobox template. If the issue is that the template doesn't work right without that final pipe, then we wouldn't see it on pages that have that final pipe. I haven't looked at the template itself, but maybe it doesn't recognize an end of line as the end of a parameter. Just throwing out some ideas. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that most of what I have done, and it is a lot, is wrong. Why it was not detected before? I am going to work in other wikis waiting to see if the errors are corrected. Jmarcano (talk) 00:52, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Jmarcano I don't think you've done anything wrong. These errors have been around for a while, we're just trying to figure them out. You're more than welcome to continue your good work here! --Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:16, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Helping with a research project in Simplification

[change source]

Hello Jmarcano,

I'm reaching out to you because I am working on a research project on simplification and am looking to collaborate with domain experts.

A quick introduction: I am a researcher interested in text simplification and am working towards publishing a resource in text simplification based on Simple Wikipedia (quite a rich encyclopedia). We believe this resource, which we will make public, could be valuable to educate and increasing awareness of text simplification.

Some colleagues and I are looking to collaborate with domain experts in the creation of the resource. We've secured some budget for our research project, so there's the possibility to remunerate a few experts that would work with us.

I do not mean to spam you, so feel free to disregard/delete if you feel this is inappropriate (and I apologize). On the other hand, if you are interested, please feel free to reach out, either directly on Wikipedia or by email (phillab@berkeley.edu) and I would be happy to tell you more.

Thank you, and sorry again if you feel this is inappropriate,

Philippe Laban
