This is a significant blow to the Carolina Hurricanes, whose season is terminated as soon as or probably sooner than Pyotr Kochetkov. The 26-year-old goaltender has chosen to have surgery to fix a nagging lower-body injury that has been causing him problems since the preseason to provide depth and stability to a team that is pushing to succeed in the postseason.Kochetkov had been playing with pain much of the campaign and had been strong in giving solid results despite few appearances. The current problem, however, eventually provided the factor of the necessity to focus on long-term health, and the Hurricanes were forced to reconsider their goaltending plans for the rest of the NHL season.

Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour also revealed that Pyotr Kochetkov will have surgery and will miss the rest of the season. The injury was a reported lingering lower-body issue and first appeared during preseason, and made the goaltender miss the first stretch of the games. Kochetkov had not dressed in a succession of games before being put into injured reserve, as he had last played in a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. In the season, he recorded a 6-2-0 record, which was accompanied by a 2.33 goals against average in nine games, which were indicative of him being able to compete despite physical restrictions.
In the absence of Kochetkov, the Hurricanes will probably rely more on Brandon Bussi and elderly Frederik Andersen. Bussi just received a new start, and he played with a calm demeanor, and Andersen is still trying to overcome a fluctuating season. Carolina is still at the top of the Metropolitan Division, but the absence of Kochetkov places pressure on them as injuries have been forcing roster depth to the limit. Also Read: Net worth of Auston Matthews in 2025: Details on Vegas Golden Knights captain's earnings, salary, and contracts
