I honestly enjoyed the story a lot. There were a lot of swoon worthy moments. But at the same time, the entire premise felt very unrealistic (like no guy would ever say the things Shaw does or be that in love for so long and not say anything, I don’t care what his reasons were. Also, the FMC was so purposefully obtuse about the MMC being in love with her for years. And honestly, she was just sometimes a bitch to him. He doesn’t fully admit he’s loves her till 82% and they finally kiss and then…nothing. Just kissing till the end. I had no idea this nook had zero spice and honestly, it didn’t make all the tension and yearning with it. I enjoyed the first 3/4 of the story and then the last 25% left me wanting more.
Also the FMC says she so independent but then always made adjustments for her boyfriends. Like catering to them and changing herself for them. So what is it? Is she independent or not? ...more

I really enjoyed the first and last 25% of the book, but the middle dragged a bit for me. The pacing slowed, and while I liked Graeme and Marjorie, I didn’t feel their chemistry as much as I wanted to. Their romance didn’t hit quite as hard emotionally, and I found myself more charmed by the supporting characters. Connell (the youngest brother) was the highlight for me. He was so funny, sweet, and surprisingly convincing as voiced by the audiobook narrator.
The narration overall was great! The accents are on point and the character voices (especially the kids) are really well done. Definitely recommend grabbing this one from your library if you’re an audiobook listener!

This was my first book by Suzanne Enoch and it won't be my last. I found the story entertaining, the romance passionate, the mystery intriguing, and the Scottish setting absolutely transportive (I felt like I was right there alongside the characters).
Plus, the audiobook was fantastic. I wasn't sure about the narrator at first since I found her to be a bit more high pitched, but I warmed up to her and truly lost myself in the story to the point where I forgot I was listening to an audiobook.
Back to the romance, I don’t know how Fiona held out as long as she did. Major Gabriel Forrester was sexy as hell for being confident, wildly competent, and completely unapologetic about knowing exactly what (and who) he wanted. I would’ve folded in five seconds. But that’s exactly what made Fiona the perfect romantic partner for him. I loved that she's smart, strong-willed and resilient. All this, along with her Scottish pride, only made their battle of wills more heated and filled with so much tension and chemistry.
Also, Fiona is a sexually experienced woman, and I have to say, that was refreshing. So many historical romances have heroines who are virgins, and while I do enjoy the innocent girl x rakish hero dynamic, it does get boring. So kudos for Suzanne Enoch for giving us something different....more

My Thoughts:
Audiobook: 4.5 ⭐️ Story: 3 ⭐️
It had its moments but I was mostly just looking towards finishing the audiobook, so I could start something else. The meet-cute at the beginning was fun. I like the magical realism premise with how they are connected by an unfinished song. And the storyline about the FMC's mom having dementia was touching and I feel as if it was handled with care and done in a realistic way.
However, I didn’t really connect to the MCs nor did I feel the chemistry between them. I mean, there might have been a spark, but at the end of the day, the romance was kind of blah. Also, there were SO MANY other side plots that the story felt a bit convoluted - the ex drama, the parents selling the music hall, the sister-in-laws midlife crisis, the proposal, the hurricane, the pressure to finish the song, her mom's dementia, the mystery behind his mother, etc. I didn't really know what to focus on and it made me lose interest during the second half.
This wasn't a bad story by any means. I just didn't really enjoy it. Oh, and this is truly a love letter to music, so if you don't really care about music and pop culture, you might not enjoy this....more

My Thoughts:
I was fine with the first 20% of this story, since we were setting the stage, meeting the characters, and I was curious to see where it would all go. But once they got to Hawaii, it went downhill for me. The romance between Trishara and Rafe was way too messy, and not in a fun or meaningful way. It was heavy on the lust, but light on actual connection. I never felt emotionally invested in the couple. Their back-and-forth dynamic felt more childish than compelling, and the constant denial of feelings and miscommunication wore me out and became extremely frustrating. Then the ex-girlfriend drama, which had been brewing in the background, finally came to a head, and that was the last straw for me. Rafe's ex literally looks at Trishara and says, "I guess you're pretty for an Indian girl". . . I'm sorry, what the f*ck?! Absolutely horrible to say that, but then the fact that this is the woman Rafe was dating for years and has been friends with his entire life??? What does that say about him??? I honestly lost so much respect for him at this moment.
Something else that irritated me was that fairytales or romance books were mentioned quite a few times throughout the story. It started off feeling playful, but they were brought up so often that it was just too much. What was initially a cute touch ended up being overused and feeling excessive.
The only things I’ve liked about this story was that it takes place in a fun tropical setting, and the fact that Trishara is a woman of color in STEM and brings attention to/confronts how she’s been discriminated against, harassed, and passed over for less-qualified men due to nepotism.

This was an enjoyable audiobook. I like Wes and Bethany. Their insta-lust romance, while sudden, was fun, endearing, and had some depth. I was already feral over the concept of a healer and an assassin (who absolutely hate each other) being forced to team up. But what blew me away was just how smart and funny this book is. My Thoughts:
I actually enjoyed this story. The characters had depth and were likable (even the side characters), the banter and tension between Cash and Mollie was fantastic, the spice was hot as hell, and bonus, there is NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP! Mollie's emotional journey surrounding her father's death was really touching, and I liked how her grief was handled. And I like that in the end, she embraced both the country and city life and didn't have to choose between the two. Instead she had a supportive partner who offered her both, and that's how it should be. Cash was a great, grumpy MMC who shoulders so much responsibility. It was wonderful watching him give up some of that control and allow himself the freedom to relax.
I do think this is a 5-star story, but my rating mostly has to do with me not quite clicking with the author's writing style. I found it to be a bit too wordy for my taste, so I ended up skimming a lot of non-dialogue (which is a majority of the book).
I also found it ridiculous how both Cash and Mollie would get super horny during every single encounter they had with each other, and mostly because of their looks alone. They took lust to a whole different level, and it was too unrealistic for me, so I definitely rolled my eyes more than a few times.
But overall, I do like this story and think it's worth the read!
