The Southern Challenge.
During a windy stormy night, while returning home, Juan Dahlmann hits his head in the dark, resulting in a terrible gash that sent him straight to the clinic in a critical status. Agonizing in his hospital bed, he feverishly dreams of the South, and everything that led him to his current state.
Another Borges writing that heavily reminds me of "Man in Pink Corner" or "The Challenge" by Vargas Llosa. A dreamy story that may hide more than it really shows, or not. I didn't see it, but can't deny the validity of an explanation to this story that I found elsewhere. On another time, with a different style, or more likely with a different author, I may have enjoyed this much more, but it was written by Borges, and his unfathomable complexity is all over the place.

El Desafío del Sur.
Durante una noche de viento y tormenta, mientras regresaba a su casa, Juan Dahlmann se golpea la cabeza en la oscuridad, lo que le provoca un terrible corte que lo envía directamente a la clínica en estado crítico. Agonizando en su cama de hospital, sueña febrilmente con el Sur, y con todo lo que lo llevó a su estado actual.
Otro escrito de Borges que me recuerda mucho a "Hombre de la esquina rosada" o "El desafío" de Vargas Llosa. Una historia de ensueño que podría esconder más de lo que realmente muestra, o no. Yo no lo vi, pero no puedo negar la validez de una explicación a esta historia que encontré en otro lugar. En otro tiempo, con un estilo diferente, o más probablemente con un autor diferente, quizás hubiera disfrutado esta historia mucho más, pero esto fue escrito por Borges, y su incomprensible complejidad está por todos lados.

Ah, another deep dive into Borges' enigmatic world! "The Southern Challenge" sounds exactly like what one would expect from him – a "dreamy story" where reality and feverish imagination blur, leaving you pondering if there's a hidden layer or if it's just meant to be.
