You're right - I recognized the Guava expedition as well as I read it, and just checked with my edition of We Need New Names - which I had started at some point, but didn't get any further in. Now I guess I will have to read the rest!

I did like the story - even if another "kids of the slum"-story is a bit depressing, especially with the pregnant 10yo (by the grandfather no less).
