Steven J. (goodreadscomsmarto) | 3 comments I've noticed some amazing animal instincts that surface when other animals and living things are faced with danger. Many videos online show golden retrievers helping cats by pulling them away from fights and trouble. These instincts are incredible to see.

Lauren Hall (laurenruddell) | 3 comments True! Altruism is rampant throughout the animal kingdom. Great apes in zoos have been known to rescue small children that fell into their motes. And for really interesting, and tear-jerking animal altruism, view the documentary "Heart of a Lionness."

Yes, I can't recall the name of that gorilla but I remember some years ago in the news where that child fell (but how?) into the gorilla enclosure and the gorilla did seem to guard/protect the child as if it were a young gorilla.
I will look into that documentary.

Kim WV | 2 comments What are either of you reading for animal themed books? I have a whole stack but I am avoiding them. As I'm getting older I am much more sensitive to the abuse, neglect and torture of any creature and I'm afraid that I'll encounter that narrative in these books. It's sad. I really want to read them though. :(

Steven J. (goodreadscomsmarto) | 3 comments I will definetly look for Heart of a Lionness and West With Giraffes. My story will hit close to home with many animal lovers and sends a nice reminder for us all to preserve and celebrate life as we did when we were kids. A fun pursuit for Sir William to find the meaning of the holidays as well. Less than two days to the book giveaway now!
