MONTPELIER — Another big year and another big day at the Big E is coming this Saturday, Sept. 20. The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets invites residents to Vermont Day at the Big E, an exciting event that takes place annually at the Vermont Building on the Avenue of States at the Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts. During Vermont Day, you’ll find 25 Vermont vendors set up to serve you inside, plus 14 more on the front lawn of the historic Vermont Building.

“The front lawn of the Vermont Building at the Big E will feel just like one of the local farmers markets you’d find in the Green Mountain State,” said Vermont Agriculture Secretary Anson Tebbetts. “We’re excited to showcase the incredible variety of food, products, crafts, and activities that come straight from the heart of our Vermont communities. After enjoying the outdoor experience, visitors will want to step inside for even more activities, food and fun — what we like to call a Taste of Vermont.”

The front lawn will feature 14 vendors: Natasha Bogar (art), Watercolors by Joshy (wearable art), River Roe and Mae (baby clothes), National Parks Service, Blossum Winks (face painting), Diamond Eye Dye (dyed clothing), Mimi’s gifts (crafts), Northwoods Nursery (plants and dried flowers), Quill Hill (spices and herbs), Jamaican Jewelz (Jamaican sauces), Vermont Spun -- formerly Green Mountain Concessions -- (maple roasted almonds), Ben & Jerry’s (ice cream), Skinny Pancake (sweet and savory crepes), and Small Oven Pastries (macrons).

Also on the lawn will be a live mural painting with Natasha Bogar during the daytime hours. The mural will be hung on the Vermont Building during the Big E each year. Professional face painter Blossom Winks will also be offering face painting for kids. Kids waiting in line to have their face painted will be able to watch Bogar at work painting her mural.

In the Vermont Building, visitors will discover handcrafted, quality treasures not found anywhere else. Savor the flavors of Vermont with Eden Specialty Ciders, or indulge in artisan maple products like maple cream, maple cotton candy, and maple barbeque sauce. Find handcrafted gifts, like herbal creations from Humble Bee Botanicals or Bergamot + Amor’s beautiful leather goods. Try delicious dishes from local favorites like So-full Sisters and Jamaican Jewelz. Or bring home a piece of Vermont— like sweet treats from Mother Myrick’s Confectionary or Vermont Marshmallow Company.

Vermont Day typically sees the largest attendance of the 17-day event, bringing in more than 178,000 fairgoers on that day alone in 2024. Last year, the Vermont Building drove more than $2 million in sales to Vermont businesses. With approximately 1.6 million attendees each year, the commitment to this event is no small undertaking.
