WHITINGHAM — Troopers with the Vermont State Police responded to School Street in Whitingham Monday morning to a report of shots fired.

A person familiar with the situation told the Reformer that workers loading metal onto a trailer were threatened by a resident who objected to them making noise so early in the morning.

"I got woken up by some loud bangs," he said, which turned out to be the workers loading the trailer. "There's a lot of noise coming from over there. Happens all the time early in the morning."

He said a man was yelling at the workers that the town has a noise ordinance that doesn't allow this type of work until later. The man later came out with a .22 rifle and fire a round "into the river to scare them ... that's definitely going too far," said the witness.

According to information from Trooper Zachary Trocki, following an investigation, Aaron Senecal, 48, of Whitingham, was arrested and cited with reckless endangerment and criminal threatening. He was ordered to appear in Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Nov. 4 and released.

No injuries were reported.

The VSP was assisted by officers with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.
