I usually wouldn’t be interested in reading another romance book about the same couple, so I like that this one was a novella, just giving us a peak back into their lives six months after the first book.
This was sweet, it had some really great moments, but I don’t think it had that same addictive quality as the first book did. I loved getting to see a little more action sequences with the F1 racing scenes, that was fun. But I also feel like the story ended the minute it was starting to get interesting.
I think the epilogue was interesting because it kind of sets up a potential for the next story, but at the same time it felt a little out of place in this novella. ...more

I love stories like this where the character gets a chance to interact with their younger self, it reminds me of one of my favorite movies My Old Ass. This book had so much potential, but it ended up feeling very repetitive and frustrating to read. The ending mostly left me confused with how I was supposed to feel.

I haven’t read a romance manga in a while and I just adored these two characters. I love that this book involves fake dating (one of my favorite tropes!) and a reality show comparable to The Amazing Race, so fun! I really adored the chemistry between these two characters, and I loved the thrill and excitement of this game reality show.
But I personally wasn't the biggest fan of how the steamy scenes were written in this one, and by the third act I started to get bored. I didn't love the third act conflict and the lack of communication between these two got really annoying for me. But I will definitely read more from this author in the future!

Very flowery and beautiful prose. I love stories like this that explore how different our lives could be based off one decision we make. This book was so freaking heavy and depressing at times. Lots of talk about sexuality and struggling with being queer. Because this book takes place in the 70's and 80's in Australia, there's lot of talk about the AIDS epidemic as well. I thought this book was so stunning and so well done, I just wish I connected to the characters a little bit more in this one.

I adore these characters so much. I’ve been in such a mood for queer sports romances and this one definitely delivered. I love that Alex is the youngest ever hockey captain in the NHL, and that he seems to be struggling with his sexuality. We also follow Elijah, who is a vlogger and figure skater who just dealt with a bad injury, and now he deals with disabilities because of it.
These two were just so sweet together and I adored the way they would communicate with each other. It reminded me a little of Heartstopper, with the way they’re just so endearing. I know some people are saying this is YA since the characters are 19 and 18, but for me it didn’t read like YA.
I wasn’t expecting this book to be such a joy to listen to, I had a smile on my face most of the time and it felt like a warm hug. Very heartwarming and exactly the kind of feel-good romance book that I needed....more

I love books about vampires, but I don't always love road trip type of stories and revenge stories don't always work for me. But the writing in this was sooooo good and so atmospheric and I was instantly drawn in to the story and connected with the characters. I love that this took place in Oregon in 1975, I loved the characters we followed, especially the vampire John Varley. What an iconic character. I love that we switch between their POV's and we really get to know them all. This book reminded me of Our Share of Night in a lot of ways. The relationship between Duane and his niece Julia reminded me a lot of The Last of Us.

In the beginning, I loved it, and I immediately connected with the characters and the writing. But then, the plot kind of shifted early on and I was confused by so many of the choices in this book. I didn't love that we got soooooo many POV's it just felt like it was really slowing down the pacing of the story and I just didn't care about all the side characters as much. I was also frustrated with our main character and some of the choices she made, it was hard to read. The writing in this book was so good and I think this author has so much potential to write something I will love in the future, but this story didn't quite land for me. By the end I was losing interest so fast I just wanted it to be over.

Dude, I loved this book. I ADORED Travis so much. This read like fanfiction, and I mean that in the best way possible, something about the writing was so addictive and I couldn't put it down. I do wish the characters were a little more fleshed out, but I adored Travis so much in this book I didn't even care. I love how in the present day we get these very intense chapters where Jacob gets into a nearly fatal accident and has to be air lifted to the hospital, and Travis is frantically trying to figure out where he is and what he can say, because they've been dating for a year and nobody knows. Nobody even knows that they are gay let alone dating each other. Then in flashback chapters, we get to see how these two met, which I loooooved getting to see that.
Travis is just the sweetest little bean, I really connected with his character in this book and felt for him. I know NOTHING about F1 racing, but I still had a fun time reading about it. Jacob is a bit of a frustrating character at times in this book, he really seems to struggle with his sexuality and his family is homophobic in a way that some readers might find really triggering, so that's something to keep in mind when reading.

I've been looking forward to reading this one for months, but I didn't really vibe with the writing style in this book. I also think it wasn't the best decision to name the characters Dylan and Derek, the names were soooo similar and I kept mixing them up and getting confused about who was who when listening on audio.
I connected slightly more with Derek as a character, I liked his story and how he is an ER nurse, and the romance was cute, but I also didn't feel that invested in their relationship and I can't even pinpoint why that is. I found their miscommunication with each other at times to be a little annoying. But at least there was a cute dog in it too haha. This was just okay for me, I think this author might not be the author for me after my experience with their last two books. ...more

The writing i2.5 stars Don't Let the Forest In is my favorite book that I've read so far this year, so it absolutely kills me that I didn't love this. The writing in this book is so gorgeous, but I didn't feel connected to these characters at all. The plot for this book just felt so random and all over the place, I didn't care about why this billionaire man died and I didn't care about the garden at Hazelthorn. The ending got so confusing and convoluted and I just didn't care and I'm soooo sad about it.

This book was so good! I read this the day after finishing Carmilla, and after being disappointed by that book, I went in with such low expectations, but this book was everything I felt was missing from Carmilla! I love the feminine rage in this book, there are so many good quotes relating to that in this book, and the gothic atmosphere was great! The sexual tension between these two women was written so well, I loved it.
Sadly, didn't love this one. I'm not the biggest fan of bully romances and the consent felt a little blurry at times and it made me uncomfortable. I dSadly, didn't love this one.
