I don't often read middle grade horror, and Paul Tremblay has been such a hit or miss author for me, so I went in with low expectations. But this was so fun and sooooo creepy and I would've LOVED this as a kid. It's giving R.L. Stine vibes in the best way. I personally get sooooo freaked out by mannequins in horror, so I really loved that in this book. This book also included some really creepy illustrations throughout that were so unsettling.
I love that this book takes place during the COVID pandemic and talks a lot about what it was like to be a young kid having to do school online and how that affected these kids psychologically. The isolation they experienced is a kind of horror in itself and I loved the authors note he included at the end talking about why he wrote this book, it was very thoughtful.

It was just so messy and chaotic and I was so annoyed with the characters at times, but it was very entertaining to read. I have been team Conrad this entire series, I just think he's the better fit for Belly and you can tell how much he loves her.
My biggest complaint with this book is that the ending is so ABRUPT and I needed WAY more closure with the things happening in those finale chapters. It just ENDS and you're like..... what! So I hope the shows does a better job with fleshing out this ending. So much happens in those final 100 pages!!!
Also, LOVED the audiobook! It was so cool to hear the actors from the show narrate this book!

This made me feel so nostalgic for that time in my life when I was a teenager and it felt like your whole life is a ahead of you. I read this on the beach and it definitely added to my enjoyment with the beach atmosphere in this book! Is it cheesy at times? yes, absolutely. But it was still fun to read!

The writing in this book is so gorgeous, but I didn't feel connected to these characters at all. The plot for this book just felt so random and all over the place, I didn't care about why this billionaire man died and I didn't care about the garden at Hazelthorn. The ending got so confusing and convoluted and I just didn't care and I'm soooo sad about it.

The audiobook is INCREDIBLE, so many cool sound effects and it really makes you feel like you are right there at this summer camp. One of the best audiobooks I've listened to. I love that this story follows a genderqueer teenager who travels to his sister's summer camp to investigate her death. The summer camp vibes were really great, and some of the horror was so creepy and affective. I really enjoyed it!...more

This w2.5 stars I'm not usually a fan of YA thrillers, but I wanted to give this one a try because I love the romance books I've read from Julie Soto. This was an okay book, it just wasn't really my thing. I found the friend group to be pretty annoying, and I wasn't as invested in the mystery as I was hoping to be. I also didn't love some of the teen drama in this one. I think if you enjoyed 13 Reasons Why, you'd probably love this one.

I can definitely see why this is getting compared to Addie LaRue, it does have similar vibes, and that is one of my all-time favorite books! I loved the writing in this book, it was so stunning and gorgeous, and I really adored the way the romance was written in this book. I love how these characters have lived so many lives, and have seen so much history and culture, and there was something about the writing that immediately had me hooked from the beginning.

I really liked the nostalgic feel to the writing, since it takes place in New Orleans in 1995, and I loved the group of friends we were following. I also loved the intrigue of the vampires. Maybe I enjoyed this so much right now because I'm currently watching The Vampire Diaries for the first time and I'm absolutely obsessing over it, and so much of this book did remind me of the show in a lot of ways. Critically speaking, this book definitely has some flaws. I really wish the characters were fleshed out more, they all felt kind of one dimensional and I wanted sooooooo much more from the romance. Jared was such a boring love interest and the romance was not interesting at all, but I know these things could be improved upon in the series. I just had a really fun time reading this book, it was exactly what I was in the mood for.

I haWow, ahhhh, this is my favorite book I've read so far in 2025. I LOVED THIS. I am shocked that this YA book just completely knocked my socks off. I haven't had this feeling with a YA book since I read We are the Ants and A Monster Calls. I ADORE these two in this book, the romance is such a slow burn and it's so freaking SWEET. I love the WRITING, oh my gosh the prose is some of the most beautiful sh*t I've ever read in my life and it was so atmospheric and stunning, and I annotated and highlighted an insane amount in this book. And also, the ASEXUAL REP in this book was absolutely everything oh my gosh. I'm asexual, and it's so rare to have this rep in books, and I just really appreciated that about this book. I can't wait to reread this book, I might try to reread it soon.
Also, random side note, but the character Thomas, I swear he's giving Klaus Mikaelson vibes and since this was the first book I read after finishing my first ever watch of The Originals, it made me love this book even more. Klaus is my favorite character in the TVDU and Thomas is sooooo giving Klaus vibes in this book if he was a young queer teen and I'm absolutely living for it.

I love stories that are about sister relationships, and this story was especially interesting because these two sisters have such a complicated relationship. This story is sad for so many reasons, not just because her sister gets diagnosed with cancer and it's all about how that really changes their perspective on life, but also because our main protagonist deals with an eating disorder that is described in some very intense detail in some scenes, so please make sure to read cautiously and check trigger warnings before reading.
This was a really tough read, but a really great one. This book is so gorgeously written, I love that it takes place in New York, the NYC vibes were amazing. I also just really loved Jayne as a protagonist, she felt very fleshed out and very real. This is a YA book, but it honestly didn't read like YA at all to me. Jayne felt very mature for her age and this book covers a lot of very adult topics. It was such a beautiful but also heart-breaking reading experience. I'm so glad I read it. ...more

From my understanding, this is Ali Hazelwood's first YA romance, and I enjoyed it for the most part. I loved Nolan as a love interest, he's a sweet little bean, and I also liked that ALi Hazelwood stepped away from STEM and science for once and wrote about Chess players, something unique and different, I don't think I've ever read about Chess matches like this.
I think Mallory as a protagonist could be a little annoying sometimes, but for the most part I enjoyed her romantic chemistry with Nolan, and I loved her relationship with her family. I think this book is going to spark a lot of conversation about what makes a book Young Adult? Because there was a lot of talk about sex in this book, she talks about how she loves casual sex and uses tinder all the time, and there are somewhat graphic sex scenes in this book. I know the main character in 18 and I think the love interest is 20? But I'm confused on if this is young adult because the characters are young or if this is supposed to be a book for teens? I just haven't read a YA book before that talks about sex this much so I thought that was interesting and might be good to know before reading.
Also, the pop culture references did get a little out of hand and they were over the top, but also this book mentioned BTS three separate times, and because I am a fan of them, and I RARELY see them talked about in books those moments had me super giddy and excited so there's that. ...more
