This was definitely the best book in the series so far. It had a really strong plot with really nice pacing and truly engaging writing. It’s a pretty long book, but I never felt myself getting tired of it or thinking that it started to drag. It had me hooked from start to finish.

Of course, this series, and this book especially, has a lot of side-characters and I’m insanely intrigued by a lot of them. Obviously I love Feyre, and I respect the hell out of her strength and bravery, but I sometimes wish we could get inside other people’s heads as well, because I’m desperate to find out more about a lot of them. I mean, Azriel, Cassian, Lucien, Nesta, Amren, Elain and Mor are evidently people I crave to get to know better, but it’s not just them I’m curious about. I’m also super intrigued by all the other High Lords and their courts; they all had such distinct personalities and dynamics, I bet each of them could have a super cool and interesting story to tell.

Personally, I think I’m currently the most interested in getting to know Nesta better. She’s obviously got a lot of sharp edges, but she’s also got such a strong personality and fierce loyalty. I really did not like her before this book, and I would even go far enough to say I hated her, but the fragility and love I saw in her now has made me forgive her. It has made me want to understand her better, but also see her get a happy ending.

Another character I personally love so much and would kill to see more of is Lucien. He’s got so many emotions swirling inside of him, and I know he’d have such an interesting story to tell. I really hope the plotline of Helion being his father will be further developed down the line, because I see a lot of potential in that. It’d really warm my heart to see Lucien finally find love from family. Speaking of, I am super curious about his brother, Eris, as well. I know all the characters hate him, but I personally don’t. What we’ve seen of him so far has mostly been good, and I think he has a lot of valid reasons for the things he does. I hope we’ll get to see a redemption arc for him, including the re-building of his relationship with Lucien.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t hate Tamlin. At all. Is he the right man for Feyre? Abso-freaking-lutely NOT. But he has a good heart underneath it all. He has issues, he definitely does, but that doesn’t make him evil. And I genuinely do feel bad for him; can you imagine how betrayed he must feel as he gets hit time and time again with rejection and abandonment? And yet, he didn’t let revenge take over from doing what was right…

Speaking of almost-villains I’ve developed a soft-spot for (as there are apparently quite a few of them): I’m a Jurian fan. I don’t care what anyone says, but this man has been through so much torture and despair, yet he came out of with not only his heart in the right place, but also the wits to play the game well. I have to respect that.

Contrastingly, I’m honestly not a fan of Elain. I don’t hate her, but I don’t like her either. Her naivety and tendency to rely on others annoyed me. She never really worked for anything herself, and just expected everyone to tend to her like she was some delicate little flower. Nesta took care of her, Feyre took care of her, but did she ever take care of them? What makes her so special that nobody ever expects her to give the same energy back to them? She’s not some holy angel who needs to be taken care of at all times. It’s annoying.
Anyway, I don’t think her and Lucien would make a good pair. Aside from the fact that neither of them really seem to like the other, I also just don’t see the chemistry or the passion. I think it would be much more interesting to see her build a relationship with Azriel. I love a grumpy x sunshine trope, and it’d be really sweet to see him go soft and gentle for her. Especially since I want him to move on from Mor desperately, who I personally think does not have a valid reason for stringing him along all those decennia; she could have easily told him the truth and spared him the heartache and longing. It’s very selfish of her, and it’s kind of the one reason why I can’t fully love her character.

Last but not least: Rhysand. Is it just me or is he just a little bit too perfect? Don’t get me wrong, I admire this man with all my might and I think he is the ideal partner for Feyre, but his perfection was a little boring to me sometimes. I needed more personality from him. I do like him for the respect he gave to Feyre and how he always allowed her to make her own choices, but sometimes that freedom almost looked a little bit like disinterest. As if he would literally just accept her death or her pain, as long as she chose it for herself. I really needed more of those protective feelings, maybe. I mean, even Cassian seemed to have those feelings more towards Nesta already, and they aren’t even together yet. Then again, it’s also clear those two make a much less healthy or evenly-matched pair, so perhaps you can’t have it both: a healthy relationship and some drama/angst/intensity. Perhaps it’s one or the other…
Also, I feel like Rhysand’s near-death experience at the end was a little cheap. Either kill him or don’t, but if the author keeps resurrecting everyone, it really lowers the stakes. I’m not supposed to feel like everyone will be safe anyway, regardless of what happens in the story. I mean, even Amren came back in the end! The only one who really died here was The Suriel, and it broke my heart (he was so pure and good), but he was such a minor character… Death scenes can be so impactful, and I wish authors weren’t so afraid to use them properly without backtracking all the time.

All in all, it’s obvious I have a lot of feelings and thoughts about these characters, which tells me this book did a really good job at making me curious about them. It clearly shows how engaged I was and how I actually started to care. And all that is even aside from how hooked I was with the plot itself!

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @manas — thanks, sweetie!🌸💗

message 3: by Jay (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jay H (Hiatus) This is so true I can’t believe people say Acomaf is the best when this one exists. There were some questionable moments like, “His growls of pleasure filled the tent, drowning out the cries of the injured and crying.” The way I resonate with this review?! It’s like we are the same person. I agree with all your points especially about Lucien he was my man from the very beginning. I feel like sjm did him dirty by making elain his mate.

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Jayden — yea, I’m absolutely baffled that Acomaf is a lot of people’s favourite, cus so far, it’s been the weakest book in the series for me. This one has definitely been the best, no doubt about it! Also, I deadass just skip all the smut scenes, so I must have missed that painful piece of literature you’re referring to right now🤣 It’s actually insane to me though that some people seriously read these books for the smut, cus not only is it such a teeny, tiny, minor part of the book (a few pages at most), but it’s also really bad💀 LOL
Anyway, yea, I’m kinda hoping it’ll be revealed later on that Lucien and Elain aren’t actually mates and that it was a trick/lie for some reason, cus these two are seriously not a good match in my eyes🫣🫠

SK Oh I think you'll love Nesta, once you get past the tough exterior of hers lol. Imo she is a pretty misunderstood and harshly judged character. Just gotta go in with an open mind for her book. You might have jinxed Rhys by calling him too perfect lol. I have a similar opinion on Elain and Tamlin. Looking forward to your thoughts on the next one, great review <3

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @SK — Oh, will Rhys finally start to show some flaws (and real personality) in the next book? I’m almost glad to hear it, cus the perfection was boring to me LOL. I’m definitely excited to find out more about Nesta; I think you’re right that I’ll love her😌

Moonlight 🌸 This was my favorite of the series too! And I actually got bored of Rhys x Feyre here, although I loved Feyre individually. Rhys was definitely wayyy too perfect haha

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Lu — Right!? I know everyone sees Rhys as their ultimate book boyfriend and is obsessed with their romance, but I’m so… ambivalent towards their relationship. I think they’re good together, but they don’t really make me feel any butterflies or have me swooning. It’s just a little boring to me😅 Love Feyre though💗💗

message 9: by Ri (new) - added it

Ri OMGGG I'm so excited for this book now, I hope I love Nesta too...She pissed me off in the first two books except when she went to the wall for Feyre I knew I couldn't hate her, that I shouldn't judge her without knowing her story. Glad you loved this book love💕beautiful review🎀

message 10: by vin .ᐟ (hiatus) (last edited Jun 21, 2024 07:50AM) (new) - added it

vin .ᐟ (hiatus) really great review!! totally agree with all your opinions about the characters - especially eris. he is just so intriguing, and there's definitely something beyond the facade that he puts up. also rhys does show some flaws in future books so don't worry about that <33 (i totally agree though, he was almost too perfect at this point)

Drusilla whoop whoop! Happy to see those four stars. lovely review Imme 💞 It always amuses me how we readers love or, in my case, hate the characters so differently 🤭🤭 ... I hate the sisters and I couldn't care less about Lucien and Cassian. I love everyone else.

message 12: by mehta (new)

mehta yay for the 4 stars!! i'm not sure if i'll ever read a sarah j maas book but i do love reading people's reviews for them

♥︎ Heather ⚔ (New House-Hiatus) Oh what. I didn't know you were reading this one too! Glad you enjoyed it bby 💗💗

message 14: by Mai (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mai H. Nesta is MY GIRL

message 15: by mors (new) - rated it 3 stars

mors So happy you enjoyed it, bb! 💞

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Ri — Thankyouu, gorgeous!!💛 I really was not into Nesta either; I was so angry at the way she treated Feyre, and I didn’t expect her to become better for me. I agree that my first doubt of that judgement came when she went to the wall, but still… I wasn’t having it. This book has shown me her character goes much deeper than that though, and I love how much personality she has!

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @vin — I’m really desperate to find out more about all those minor characters like Eris, cus I feel like they all have so many interesting things going on beyond the surface!! Also, it’s good to hear Rhys will become more of an actual person in the later books, cus this creature of perfection felt fake and boring to me😅

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Drusilla — hahah the most interesting thing about reading is definitely that everyone will do it differently😉🥰

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @mehta — hahaha that’s so valid! I was the same until not that long ago, but then I started ToG and was immediately sold ;))

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Heather — Yesss, I love that we’re going through this at the same time🩷🩷

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Mai — She’s by far the most complex, which definitely makes her the most interesting!😌💙

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Morsal — Thankss, mll😘❤️

Morgan ♓︎ I love that Nesta grew on you! She’s my fav because she’s so complicated and there is a lot to unpack with her. Also, I second wanting to know more about Lucien. I really hope he gets his main character moment some time in this series.

message 24: by Rain (new) - rated it 3 stars

Rain I thought about diving back into the series since it’s been so long. Reading your review… I realized how much I have forgotten!

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Morgan — I never expected Nesta to become my favourite, but I definitely see a high possibility of it happening if her character is developed well in the next book!! I really hope so too that Lucien will eventually get his own time to shine in the series <3

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Rain — Maybe a reread would be fun?😉

Rain Imme wrote: "@Rain — Maybe a reread would be fun?😉"

Yes! I see they have released dramatized audiobooks for this series, it might be fun to listen to them with a bunch of voice actors!

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Rain — Oh my god, yes, totally! I was super curious about those dramatized audiobooks as well, and I’d definitely go for them as well if I ever do a reread!🩷

Snjez Great review, Imme! 💗 I don't hate Tamlin, either. 😉 But Nesta is another story. 😂 Really glad you enjoyed it so much! It was my least favourite at the time, but it's the only one I haven't reread, so we'll see how I feel about it now. 🙂

Southern Lady Reads I agree! This was my favorite in the series too!

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Snjez — Oh wow, you liked this one the least??😮 I’m shocked!! Maybe a reread would change your mind, but then again, it’s also the most plot-heavy, so that’s probably less fun the second time around😅

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Southern Lady — Right!? I really think this was much better than the previous two!😌

message 33: by alli☀️ (new)

alli☀️ I am happy you enjoyed this more than the others🫶. I only read the first 2 books but I agree with your opinions on Tampon. I didn't find him evil but he got on my nerves sometimes lol. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series🙂‍↕️.

Sabrina Can say this one did have a stronger plot and dealt with more politics and action. Acomaf was more romantic and somewhat character driven. I have a feeling you’ll enjoy nestas book if you feel that way now! Many of us can agree on Elain 😂 she’s always just there and I’m curious what Sarah’s goal is with her. I love Rhys as well, but you’ll definitely see him a bit flawed in acosf as he’s no longer seen through feyres eyes but Nesta lol hope you enjoy the next one <3 it felt like more of a reprieve from this book than anything (the novella)

message 35: by Rose (new)

Rose :) ♡⋆ (semi-hiatus) Rhysand seems too perfect to the point that I'm like GIVE ME THOSE FLAWSS...😭 But anyways, glad you enjoyed!! On to the next onee

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @allison — “Tampon”💀😭🤣

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Sabrina — Yes, this one was 100% more plot-focused! Which honestly would normally probably not mean it’s my favourite in the series, but with this one it is cus I never got super invested in the romance part of this series, so rn I need more than that to keep me fully engaged or invested in what I’m reading hahah😅 It’s definitely interesting to hear that Rhys will finally get some more flaws in acosf; I’ve heard that from quite a few people now so I’ve gotten super curious to find out how different he will be😉

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Rose — YES! I almost felt a little bad for thinking it, but I genuinely wanted him to stop being so damn perfect cus it made him so boring to me😭 LOL

message 39: by krys (new) - rated it 5 stars

krys lovely review!! i’m so glad to see someone else who also finds Nesta intriguing, she was one of my favorites and i always looked forward to scenes with her in this book💕also i feel you on The Suriel 😭 it broke meeee. looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the next books when you get into them! 🤍

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @krys — I never expected to become intrigued by Nesta, cus I really thought she was a b*tch in the other books, but well, here we are anyway🤣🤣 And yea, The Suriel’s death seriously broke my heart😭

Krysta ꕤ I think you’ll really enjoy Nesta’s book since you’re so interested in learning more about her! 🤭 the only person from the core group i can’t stand is Elain lol but im happy to see the 4 stars for this one and i hope you enjoy the rest of the books 🩷

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @Krysta — Yess, I really hope so, but I bet I’ll enjoy it! Funny to hear we both have the same person we don’t like in the core group😂😅

kendyl ʚ♡⃛ɞ (hiatus) i love how much you loved this one ml!!! it was so good and stressed me out!!! ugh i miss these characters so much🥺amazing review<3

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @kendyl — Thankss, gorgeous!!💜 I’m already sad thinking about the moment I’ll have to say goodbye to the characters😔

manas (NEW YEAR) this book is so underrated!! glad you liked it :)

Imme [trying to crawl out of hiatus] van Gorp @manas — Yea, for me it’s definitely the best one so I’m surprised not everyone feels the same hahah
