I love Hunt, but no one can convince me that this wasn’t actually a true love story about the friendship between Bryce and Danika. Those two loved each other so fiercely; their love could withstand anything and it was one in which each would sacrifice everything for the other. I can honestly say that a lot of the selfless, brave, and tragic things they did for each other genuinely brought tears to my eyes. They are the definition of ride or die, and thus, Danika’s own motto described them best:
For me, all of this book’s characters really came to life and I truly began to care for them. I could feel their grief, their longing, and their struggle but also their joy, bravery and perserverance (especially when it came to Bryce, of course). I became so invested in all of their feelings and in all of the complex relationships Bryce had with people; I could never, for a second, say that I got bored of it.
I mean, take her relationship with her brother, Ruhn, for example; it really had me in a chokehold from beginning to end and each interaction had me completely in its grip! I just loved all the different kinds of love that Bryce was developing and grieving and slowly understanding; familial, platonic, or romantic; old or new.
In all truth, though, I do understand why some people struggled with this book because of its immense length. Its pacing isn’t always the best and it even drags at times. Nonetheless, I was completely sucked into this murder-mystery story with all its twist and turns, this brutal yet also fantastical world, and, most of all, these complex but loveable characters. Thus, I can’t deny I was fully engaged from beginning to end.
And wow, what a truly fantastic beginning and end it was!! Both had me completely shocked and at the edge of my seat!
I mean, I did not see the course of the first part of this book coming at all, and so when we… lost certain people, I was completely heartbroken and shattered. I had already formed a really strong connection to a lot of those people and to then see them… suffer that fate… Damn. That really hit me unexpectedly and therefore all the more strongly.
But then, of course, the last part of this book was also so strong in the way it truly felt like a culmination and climax of everything that had been building, and it didn’t fail to satisfy in a single regard.
In summary, this book is a big commitment and long journey, but one that’s worth it in my opinion.

@manas — ahhhhh im only like 150 pages in but so far im enjoying it so much! i definitely think it could be my favourite of hers too (or maybe combined with crown of midnight cus i rly loved that one as well, but i dunno)! It does feel really different from her other two series so far, but like… in a good way, i think? I also really appreciate that the POV’s are constantly mixed up and it’s not all just one POV; makes it a lot easier to connect with more of them😉

@manas — i honeslt LOVED early books Chaol so much, but that’s also why I hated him so much later on, cus I felt so betrayed by his switch-up😭 I really hope Hunt is not gonna do me like this, cus i cannot deal with that a second time🫠🤣 im kinda sad to hear the series goes downhill, though… i was hoping it was gonna stay good throughout the whole thing!🥲

@manas — im at page 400 now, and i can definitelyy see your vision of Hunt; he’s so NON toxic and I love that for him🤣💕
Ooh, love to hear that. I started the audio some time back but haven’t gotten far but maybe I should start again. I mean, I couldn’t achieve a reading challenge with that.
@Jay — thankss, love!!💕 and yesss you really do need to! You do have to have patience, cus it’s a long book, but if you’re loving it, like me, then that length is only a bonus cus you get to enjoy it for longer😉😉
@Kati — HAHAH yea, it’s a long one, so definitely not great for achieving reading challenges🤣 I also get why it might not have gripped you immediately; it did for me, but i can see why it wouldn’t for everyone.
@Mai — ugh, that’s so disappointing! Manas said the same thing to me also, so now im kinda scared about it all going downhill soon😔
eeee happiest reading love!! i love this book and bryce is my fav fmc, i’m so glad you’re enjoying it! can’t wait to see your thoughts 💕💕
@Emma — Well, I definitely love THIS book and im going to hope I’ll also agree with you about the rest of the series😉💕
@nina — Bryce truly is an amazing fmc, but I genuinely think that is where SJM shines most brightly; in writing truly likable yet also badass and admirable heroines!
Unfortunately, I was one of those people who thought the length did a disservice to the book, but even I agree that the ending was very satisfying. I have some gripes about SJM's writing, but she ALWAYS delivers on writing emotional scenes. I'm glad this one was such a hit for you!
this book was the best in the series cause they all go downhill afterwards 😭 i don’t care about Hunt personally but i love Ruhn so much! I’m curious to see what you’ll think of the other two, glad you enjoyed ❤️
I love the first book!! so happy you enjoyed it too Imme!! can’t wait too see your thoughts about the next two books 👀 as there are more amazing characters to come
@Morgan — I totally get it! The length is not something to joke about, but is truly some serious business🫠🤣 SJM is definitely not always working for me either, and her writing can piss me off from time to time as well, but in this case all the puzzle pieces fell together perfectly for me ;))
@Krysta — Everyone keeps saying that and now im honestly scared to death to continue with the sequels… i really want to keep loving it, but im starting to suspect i won’t, since all of yall didn’t either😭😭 Also, I do also care about Hunt, but I agree with you that I care about Ruhn MORE. He just had a special place in my heart🥹
i second krysta!! i didn't particularly like hunt but ruhn, now that's my man 😋 i also loveddd the friendship between bryce and danika and really enjoyed bryce as a character hehe. the plot was so fun in this fr!! i can't wait to see what you think of book 2 👀 i found that less entertaining than this but after seeing the disappointment with HOFAS i've been avoiding this series entirely lmaoo
@lila — i meann, i did like Hunt too but im definitely with you girls that Ruhn was TOP TIER! His protective brother vibes were immaculate and I couldn’t get enough of it!!😍🫶🏻 im happy to hear you also really love Bryce and Danika’s friendship and Bryce on her own; they really were amazing! And the plot, yessss, loved it! It’s kinda why I can totally see why the sequels would be less fun cus obvs it wouldn’t have danika and it also wouldn’t have that whole mystery plot to figure out; that’s done now, so i get why the plot might go downhill… im just hoping that the characters themselves won’t as well🫠😅 cus honestly, i get why you’ve been avoiding book 3 after all the letdown; im almost scared to continue the series too😭
omg 5 stars! i love a good female friendship. the only sjm that i've read has been acotar and wasn't really a fan. but honestly this series looks like something that i'd enjoy lol. i'm glad u loved it tho! i hope the rest of the series is just as good.
@cheska — yesss, well-written female friendships are so special to me!!💕💕 and honestly, I’ve not been a fan of every book of sjm i’ve read either and this was definitely one of her bests in my opinion! ACOTAR is her worst series if you were to ask me, so the only way to go from there is up HAHA😉
