Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3)

Dystopian Imperfection.
District 12 has been erased from the map; and Katniss, the rebel reincarnation of the mockingjay, will have to prove her worth one final time. Not for herself or her forbidden love, nor her friends or family, but for all the inhabitants of Panem, now in open revolt against the tyrannical power of the Capitol. A revolution arises from the ashes of the destroyed District 13, and Katniss is the leading protagonist, and a pawn in another kind of game.
This was a fairly good conclusion to one of the greatest dystopian series of all time; decently entertaining and action packed as all the previous ones, yet not the best of the series, at least imo. I did enjoy it enough, but sadly it felt overwhelmingly heavy on the psychological side. Feeling Katniss constantly despair in first person for almost half the book was far more disheartening self-inflicted drama than I cared to endure. Not that she hadn’t enough reason to, but it was just way too much. Many interesting twists and memorable events, like the siege of The Nut, the rescue of the victors, (view spoiler) and the assault on the Capitol (view spoiler). A satisfyingly surprising ending and a perfectly heartfelt epilogue (view spoiler) Overall good, maybe even very good, but definitely not a favorite.
** The movies (2014-5) were good adaptations. Were two films really necessary? My heart says no, yet the rational part in me reluctantly has to admit so many developments and plot twists would’ve been far too much to pack in just one release, making it extremely convoluted and impossibly fast paced; so I think two releases were more than justified, despite the obvious money grab. Not that I care for any of them anyway; I’ve watched the previous films more times than I can recount, but these two last movies only once or twice, and I can live without ever watching them again. Not that I think they are actually bad at all, perfectly good acting, admirable special effects and overall great artistic value; I just don’t care about it. Barely recommendable, at least for completionism sake.

Honestly, this is the one I don’t think I remember all that well… Probably because the plot was quite different from the other two with this one not having any actual “hunger games”. I definitely wanna reread!! Awesome review <3 I’m glad you enjoyed getting back to this series so much🩵🩵

Great review, Federico! 🙂 I agree, these movies and book felt different than parts 1 & 2. Four stars is still pretty good for the sake of completionism!

Amazing review Federico!! Just wait till to you read A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It explains a lot about President Snow. Why he is the way he is. It’s more like the prequel that should’ve been.

I already have it downloaded and will get to it later this year :D
Tara wrote: "Great review Federico, the last two books and movies I felt were disjointed."Thank you Tara! Yes, sadly they were good but nowhere near the same :/

Amazing review of the series finale. The last movie was definitely lacking action. I still liked it. Although, I've never re- watched any one of them. 😐 Planning a rerun soon.
Ahh... the finale over delivered philosophy! At least it was so bad and ended up as a 4-star book. Superb review, Federico.

Srivalli wrote: "Ahh... the finale over delivered philosophy! At least it was so bad and ended up as a 4-star book. Superb review, Federico."Thank you Srivalli 3.5 actually, rounded up. I'm eager to round it down but I try to stick by my original rating.
I never completed this series, and actually think I started it, but wasn’t feeling it. Watched the movie though. I’m glad it was a fairly good conclusion for you.
Fantastic review, Federico!! Sorry this conclusion wasn’t as good as the first two books. I still have yet to read them! :)

And even me that I LOVED the first two I'm not so crazy about this one. Watching the movies you are good I think :p
Rachel wrote: "Fantastic review, Federico!! Sorry this conclusion wasn’t as good as the first two books. I still have yet to read them! :)"Thank you Rachel! I can definitely vouch for the first two books and movies. Can't say the same for this one though!
Awesome review!I loved this trilogy. I don’t think that I have written a review of any of the 3 books. I still have to read the latest release of this series.
The first one I remember giving 5 stars. I think the second was 4 and this one 5.

Thank you Nilton! So glad you loved the series too. Almost right, checking your reviews I see 5, 0 and 5 stars for each. Hoping to read the latest one too now that I've finally taken the time to review them xD
Wonderful review, Feddie! Absolutely in sync with your thoughts on this one, though I was so upset at certain plot developments that I rated it lower. I too have watched the last two movies only once. Just didn't feel like watching them again.
It sucks when the last book of the series doesn't hold up to the previous books. But, a four-star read is still great! Glad you enjoyed this series so much! I can't wait to start it!
YES. This book could’ve been so epic. Was it? NO. Peeta and Finnick deserved better. The cat deserved better. We all deserved better. I’m with you on the two movies—watching them once or twice was enough. No need to relive them.
Rosh wrote: "Wonderful review, Feddie! Absolutely in sync with your thoughts on this one, though I was so upset at certain plot developments that I rated it lower. Dunno what happened, my guess is three times perfection book-movie combo was just too unlikely for anyone to pull xD
Coco wrote: "It sucks when the last book of the series doesn't hold up to the previous books. But, a four-star read is still great! Glad you enjoyed this series so much! Hope you enjoy the series when you get to it :)

Mainly the cat. Can't wait to see what the new prequel book and movie has in store. Soon, very soon xD
Well, a conclusion worthy of four stars is still good :) Great review! It's been nice to follow your reviews, I might try this series someday.
Alexandra wrote: "Well, a conclusion worthy of four stars is still good :) Great review! It's been nice to follow your reviews, I might try this series someday."Thank you Alexandra! In truth this felt more like a 3-star but for some stupid reason I stubbornly try to honor my original ratings lol. Hoping you enjoy it too when you get to it, I have a feeling you would like them :)
Glad to see you picked up this series! It's been a long time since I've read them, but I remember the 3rd being my least favorite too! Amazing review, Federico! 🤗
Alejandro wrote: "That's awesome that the saga concluded in a good way. Great review."Thank you Alejandro! The saga concluded for a time, but now I need to go right back to the start with the prequel book, and the upcoming movie xD
Hanna (semi-hiatus) wrote: "Glad to see you picked up this series! It's been a long time since I've read them, but I remember the 3rd being my least favorite too! Amazing review, Federico! 🤗"Thank you Hanna! Good but kind of a letdown for sure. And now for the prequel book xD
Another great review Federico, it's a shame you didn't enjoy this as much as the first two - but 4 stars is pretty good anyway. I've been tempted to watch the movies at times - still not sure. I've just printed off your Spanish section to help me with some new words for my Spanish study - hope you dont mind!!! It's always a shame when one finishes a great series - I hope you're recovering ok!!

I'm just revisiting and reviewing the series to warm up before starting the new prequel book and the movie to be aired later this year. The first two movies are more than worth it imo, so I'm pretty sure you would like 'em; can't say the same about these last two though. Always glad to hear my spanish helping my friends improve their language skills. Mind I'm not a professional translator and my spanish may be partly regional to Argentina. That said, being bilingual I can confidently say it's mostly accurate :)
Glad this one was one was good even if it wasn't the best - it's a bit of a letdown when the conclusion of such a good series doesn't feel quite right. Fair review, Federico!
A wrote: "Glad this one was one was good even if it wasn't the best - it's a bit of a letdown when the conclusion of such a good series doesn't feel quite right. Fair review, Federico!"Thank you Mac! True but I'll have a second chance of conclusion with the new prequel book and the upcoming movie xD
Great review Federico iv not read the books i cant lie i do love the movies as im huge dystopian fan but ill give these a read :)
Zainab wrote: "Great review Federico iv not read the books i cant lie i do love the movies as im huge dystopian fan but ill give these a read :)"Thank you Zainab! I can never go back from the movies to the books! Hope they don't disappoint. Read many reviews and many do find the books even better than the films :)
Rebecca wrote: "Amazing review friend! I agree with your rankings totally! I am glad you enjoyed this series!!"Thank you Rebecca! Glad you to know you also liked the series :D
Awesome, Federico! I agree, the first two movies were worth rewatching, but not the final one. I stopped watching after (view spoiler) in MJ part 2. Haha. I'm glad that this is still the greatest dystopian series of all time for you despite that. Next series when? 😁
Shey wrote: "Awesome, Federico! I agree, the first two movies were worth rewatching, but not the final one. I stopped watching after [spoilers removed] in MJ part 2. Haha.
