Property constraint NLR (Romania) identifier (draft)

[edit]

occurences so far; see special:WhatLinksHere/Property:P1003

  1. they have a fixed 9 digit length (example: 000075857)
  2. digits only
  3. multiple occurences at one Wikidata page are allowed
  4. the value 000000000 should be blacklisted
  5. one value is allowed to be used at one Wikidata page only (else this is a conflict / impropper reference)

I need to leave. Regards לערי ריינהארט (talk)

Please first correct your old errors before thinking what else could be done.
1. Your proposal does not make any sense: "viaf:27069077 is using for the future RNL [now: NLR] the value Sys. no.: 000149614."
  • VIAF:27069077 (Marilyn Monroe) is not using NLR.
  • What do you know about "the future NLR"?
  • The basic information is missing: Where and how can the NLR identifier be found?
2. Here you wrote that Marilyn Monroe (Q4616) has two and Paul Celan (Q153905) even four authority files.
  • As far as I know there is one authority file for Monroe and Celan has no authority number yet. (One would be fine, four numbers don't make sense.)
Paul Celan (Q153905) see ro:talk:Paul Celan and LibraryThing: Paul Celan (1920–1970) Gangleri (talk) 10:46, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please note that not all numbers you find in an OPAC are authority records.

BNR is an abbreviation known in Romania and Moldovia but not in Sri Lanka, Tansania, Chile etc.
If you look carefully at the url parameters you may find the string NLR indicating that people maintaining the librarian software are using the English abbreviation. I reaslized this after I identified the method to search and found the identifier values. לערי ריינהארט (talk)

Please first correct your old errors before thinking what else could be done.
1. You proposed a property called "RNL (Romania)", than you changed the label into "NLR".[1]
  • The abbreviation for "Biblioteca Naţională a României" is BNR.
  • Please clean up the chaos.
2. Your proposal does not make any sense. You wrote: "viaf:27069077 is using for the future RNL the value Sys. no.: 000149614."
  • VIAF:27069077 (Marilyn Monroe) is not using RNL.

Wow, you even turned this discussion page into a mess.

  • "eo:Mihail Șolohov shows ...": "La Vikipedio ne enhavas artikolon kun precize tiu ĉi nomo" (= no article).
  • Mikhail Sholokhov (Q42398) has four "Headings": 000354872, 000217258, 000215505, 000330380
  • You've added in WD the number: 000086175
  • NLR/BNR OPAC shows "LC Authority Record": 000215505

I'm not convinced that your way of searching provides us with a valid authority ID. --Kolja21 (talk) 02:43, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gangleri, it doesn't make life easier if you log in with multiple accounts (לערי ריינהארט / Gangleri / I18n / Леонид Розенфельд / and IPs). And PLEASE STOP changing my edits on discussion pages.[2] It's hard enough to find out what you are talking about, but at least I want to know what I've written. So please focus on the main question: Where and how can the NLR identifier be found? If you enter multiple IDs for persons it's not what authority control is meant for. (Example: Your edits on Marilyn Monroe.) --Kolja21 (talk) 15:14, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The chance to find a system number depends on how common a name (family name given name) is, it depends on the characters used (it is easier to identify AC values for names with ASCII characters only) it depends if en:S-comma / en:T-comma or S-cedilla / T-cedilla is used. Foreign names might be transliterated as you may see in the identifeirs for:

Sergei Eisenstein (Q8003) using two values:
http://alephnew.bibnat.ro:8991/F?func=find-b&request=000331156&find_code=SYS&adjacent=Y&local_base=NLR10
000331156 Eisenštejn, Serghej Mihajloviců (1898-1948)
http://alephnew.bibnat.ro:8991/F?func=find-b&request=000074163&find_code=SYS&adjacent=Y&local_base=NLR10
000074163 Eisenštejn, Serghej Mihajloviců
Giorgos Seferis (Q165823) using two values as well:
http://alephnew.bibnat.ro:8991/F?func=find-b&request=000201087&find_code=SYS&adjacent=Y&local_base=NLR10
000201087 Seferis, Ghiorghios
http://alephnew.bibnat.ro:8991/F?func=find-b&request=000201088&find_code=SYS&adjacent=Y&local_base=NLR10
000201088 Seferis, Yorgos

You need to consider how the chances for your search would be. In the example below the first line is no valid url. MediaWiki URLENCODE would normally help. At some WMF projects as rowiki an automatic character conversion from en:S-comma / en:T-comma to S-cedilla / T-cedilla takes place both after preview and when saving a page.

One of the simpler examples without character from East European countries is:

As in many catalogs participating in VIAF there are examples where one author has multiple AC records. As Cat Stevens (Q154216) etc. Marilyn Monroe (Q4616) is using two different identifier values (000343620 and 000149614) but George Enescu (Q77177) is using ony one only: 000331371.

There are no better links today (links to authority records) as those to other national libraries listing all different spellings for an author, date of birth, date of death if applicable, etc. This is was is available today. לערי ריינהארט (talk) 20:20, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of thinking about ASCII characters and the limitations of the time we live in, it might be wise to take a look on how to find authority records in catalogs maintained by the Ex Libris Group using Aleph as integrated library system.
Take for example the National Library of Latvia (Q1133733):
  1. https://lira.lanet.lv/F/?
  2. click on "English"
  3. Browse
  4. Select index to browse: Author
  5. Monroe
  6. Monroe, Marilyn, 1926-1962 - [LC Authority Record]
  7. Click on "Authority Record"
  8. Result: Monroe, Marilyn, 1926-1962 = 000047214
Now finding this number might be a coincidence, a pure mood of technology. So we make a test and look up the actress in VIAF.
  1. VIAF 27069077
  2. Result: Monroe, Marilyn, 1926-1962 = LNB|LNC10-000047214
Instead of waiting year after year that the National Library of Romania (Q622012) introduce authority control you could have done the same simple steps in their catalog. And now please stop adding all kinds of numbers you've extracted from different URLs and start using authority control. --Kolja21 (talk) 22:42, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Examples:

  1. Rose Ausländer (Q60873)
    1. You have added: NLR 000322507 [3]
    2. NLR authority file ("Înregistrare de autoritate NLR"): No record
  2. Anton Sterbling (Q101235)
    1. You have added again: NLR 000322507 [4]
    2. NLR authority file: 000210788 (Sterbling, Anton)

--Kolja21 (talk) 22:54, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ro:file:Exemplu căutare la catalogul BNR.jpg shows that the links work. No clue why you state that no results are found. לערי ריינהארט (talk) 00:03, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Read en:Authority control and then again the above instruction how to find the correct numbers. All your edits needs to be re-examined. --Kolja21 (talk) 00:27, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Conflation with National Library of Russia

[edit]

Based on the vast majority of format violations this seems to be getting highly conflated with National Library of Russia ID (P7029). 50.53.21.2 12:32, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just added an autofix for this (see above). — Metamorforme42 (talk) 00:16, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Error in "Vladimir Bukovsky (Q360471)"

[edit]

Greetings and felicitations. I'm mostly an editor of English Wikipedia, so I am rather unfamiliar with Wikidata. Vladimir Bukovsky (Q360471) has an incorrect NLR ID, and while I found him in the National Library of Romania, I am uncertain where to find the proper ID. Here are the listings: 1 and 2 (a book by him). I tried to fix it myself using those, but the results seemed to be wrong.

Would someone please be so kind as to fix this? —DocWatson42 (talk) 03:11, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
